Medical Care on Board Ship Refresher

The Marine Medical Care course is provided to those seafarers who are designated to provide medical care on board vessels at sea. Course aims to enable candidates on completion of training, to provide medical first aid on board ship, in accordance with Section A-VI/4-2 of the STCW Code. The level of knowledge of the subjects shall be sufficient to enable the designated seafarer to take immediate effective action in the case of accidents or illness likely to occur on board ship.

Course Details

  • Medical care of rescued persons, including trauma, hypothermia and cold exposure
  • Death at sea

  • Medicines and medical equipment
  • Surgical equipment instruments and supplies
  • External assistance

Who should attend?
Every seafarer who is designated to take charge of medical care on board ship shall be required to demonstrate the competence to undertake the task, duties and responsibility listed in A-VI/4-2. For officers dedicated to provide medical care and is a requirement for holders of Chief mate and master COC.

Pre course Requirements
A valid STCW 95 A-V/4-1 Medical Care On board Ship certificate
