What is First Aid Training? Who is First Aider?

According to the GUIDELINES ON FIRST-AID IN THE WORKPLACE – 2nd Edition, on Page 1, in Section 1.5:

First Aid Training should have contents listed in guidelines, click here.

First aider means a person who has successfully completed a first aid course and has been awarded with a certificate of proficiency in first-aid by institution.

For the legal provision, an employer has a duty to provide information, instruction, training and supervision about first aid facilities and services for employees (DOSH Guidelines, Page 5 & 6, Section 2.1 & 2.2).

The Factories and Machinery Act 1967

Section 25 of the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (Act 139) and Regulation 38 of the Factories and Machinery (Safety, Health and Welfare) Regulations 1970 state the scope of responsibility of an occupier with regards to first-aid provision.
The scope includes:

  • providing and maintaining a first-aid box or cupboard of such standard as may be prescribed and ensuring the box is readily accessible at all times;
  • assigning the responsibility to upkeep a first-aid box or cupboard to a responsible person, and for a factory with more than 20 person employed, specifying that the responsible person should be proficient in first-aid treatment; and
  • providing and maintaining a first-aid room in a factory where more than 150 person are employed.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994

Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) provides that every employer and the self-employed person must ensure, so far as is practicable, the safety, health and welfare at work of all his employees. The provision of first-aid facilities and first-aiders is in compliance with the welfare component of this general duty of employers and self-employed persons.

2 DAYS BASIC FIRST AID COURSE OVERVIEW

In this course, you will learn the skills and knowledge to enable a first aider to provide an initial response to an emergency in line with practiced actions, as well as the American Heart Association (AHA) guideline.

This course prepares you to deal with a range of emergencies, from common injuries such as cuts, scrapes, and burns to major injuries such as trauma to the head and cardiac arrest.

Our training adheres to the Malaysia Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (FMA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA), ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for all.

BASIC FIRST AID COURSE OBJECTIVES

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Find out hazards to the health and safety of the first aider and others in an emergency situation.
  • Check the casualty, find out injuries and decide if need for assistance.
  • Do first aid treatment and follow procedures for CPR.
  • Tell and write details of the incident.
  • Use the principle of Universal Precautions while delivering the responsibility to protect the first-aiders from acquiring blood borne pathogen, e.g. Hepatitis B and HIV.

ASSESSMENTS

After finishing the theory part, participants need to sit for a practical evaluation following a skills checklist. This will allow you to demonstrate your first aid skills and knowledge in a realistic scenario

CERTIFICATION

Having completed the course, participants will be awarded with Certificate of Proficiency.

DELIVERY OF CERTIFICATE

Once you have completed the course, you will receive a Certificate of Training. Then, we will deliver the certificate to the client’s correspondence address in 21 working days.

VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATE

You can use both Certificate of Proficiency and Course Completion Card for 3 years from the date of test. After that, you need to do refresher training for re-certification purpose.
